Trigger Points are, in a way, a concentration of tensions and pains trapped in the musculature in the form of small knots which, at rest, or when stimulated by body movements, are activated and trigger pain. This pain can be felt at the location of the trigger point, on the path where it tends to radiate, or even at a location far from the point.
The action of NST is an immediate relief of acute or chronic pain by the specific and global treatment of muscles, tendons and ligaments. This results in a realignment of the entire structure as well as a profound physical and mental well-being.
The main goal of NST is therefore to restore a correct position of the muscular system, which will induce homeostasis of all other systems as well. This will result in the elimination of pain and physiological and psychological dysfunctions and a stable structural integrity. Here are some indications that best respond to NST:
Some complex cases may require a multidisciplinary approach of which NST will be a significant part. Naturally, NST practitioners do not make diagnoses but will know how to apply their knowledge to alleviate the difficulties of non-well-being.
The NST philosophy
Pain is one of the very first signs alerting us that we are not living according to the laws of nature, which can cause a significant weakening of our vitality and energy. Listening to this pain is moving towards health. On the other hand, masking it with medication and surgery or ignoring it by continuing to live in disharmony is allowing the causes of the problem to exist in an insidious way. Hans SELYE's General Adaptation Syndrome describes this phenomenon in three phases:
Adaptation is that wonderful survival skill that our body uses over and over again until it is exhausted.
Its history and development
Australia, 1946 - After many years of research, health practitioner Tom Bowen was able to state that certain health disorders were closely related to specific muscular dysfunctions and that by acting on the muscles and fascia with his method, he could resolve them in the long term.
In 1975, an Australian government study revealed that Bowen treated about 13,000 patients a year in his practice where he worked for 36 years. After his death in 1982, an early version of his work was developed by one of his students, but although the work had satisfactory results, it had some limitations.
From 1991 to 1995, after his retirement from high-level sports, the Australian Michael Nixon-Livy, therapist and international teacher, undertook to complete this method. He followed studies in alternative medicine, dietetics, human sciences, manual therapy and Ericksonian psychology. And it was with a real passion that he studied and reworked the works of Tom Bowen to finalize them in the NST.
For over 15 years, Michael has been teaching and making this wonderful and powerful healing technique available to all manual care practitioners. You will find all the information about the therapists who perform this method around the world on his website nsthealth.com.
